Tsunami Survivor

(This poem came to me after a very vivid dream.)

The day is clear.
In the market we walk.
Suddenly distant screams,
Animals are fleeing,
A wall of blue is headed our way.

Running,
I grab my friend’s hand.
Legs at full speed,
Lungs are burning.

Blue surrounds us.
I lose grip,
Ripped apart,
We never see each other again.

Soaked,
Being tossed around.
I try.
I can’t.

Life before my eyes,
Darkness.
A dream,
Pressure on my chest,
A lover’s kiss,
Air fills my lungs once more.

Daylight,
A Good Samaritan.
Life.
Salvation.
